INDIANA, PA – The final countdown.

The 2025 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels reaches its season-long checkered flag this weekend, resulting in Modified and Sportsman champions being crowned.

Again, this season, the American Racer Cup rewards competitors for racing regularly at the 14 tracks ranging geographically across New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Quebec, Canada utilizing American Racer tires.

Points will be finalized on Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 1.

Matt Sheppard, using Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., as his home track, took over the lead with his victory at the half-mile oval last Friday. Sheppard has reached his final total as there is no scheduled Modified racing at Utica-Rome this weekend. Sheppard has amassed 660 points.

Quebec’s David Hebert – a dominant force at Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec – is second with 648 points. Autodrome Granby will be in competition this Friday (Aug. 29).

Danny Creeden’s Saturday success at Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park leaves him third in the points with 643 points. Afton will be open this Sunday (Aug. 31) for the ‘Afton Action 50’ giving the Wurtsboro, N.Y., driver one more opportunity to collect points.

Michael Maresca of Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., is fourth with 625 points and Dillon Steuer of Bohemia, N.Y., completes the top five with Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park as his home. Steuer has earned 618 points.

Outlaw will be in action Friday, while Bridgeport is silent for the holiday weekend.

Sheppard is the only driver inside the top five with a previous American Racer Cup championship, having won from 2017-2019 running at Outlaw and 2023-2024 at Utica-Rome.

Sheppard (North) and Steuer (South) are the regional leaders.

The Sportsman American Racer Cup is led by Payton Talbot of South New Berlin, N.Y., a Utica-Rome Speedway regular, with 690 points. Like his Utica-Rome counterpart Sheppard, Talbot has reached his final total with no Sportsman racing scheduled for the Vernon oval this weekend.

Talbot is seeking his first American Racer Cup Sportsman crown.

Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway’s Chad Edwards sits second with 656 points. There is no racing at Fonda this Saturday due to the 184^th annual Fonda Fair.

Tyler Peet, representing Utica-Rome, is third with 653 points. Afton Motorsports Park regular Travis Green is fourth with 652 points and will be able to compete this Sunday. Kenny Peoples Jr. of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway is fifth with 645 points. Woodhull is operational this Saturday (Aug. 30).

The 2025 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco launches on Friday, April 11. Points will be tabulated for both the Modified and Sportsman overall and regional championship battles starting during the weekend of April 11-13.

Fourteen tracks representing New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Quebec, Canada are set to participate in the 2025 program, which rewards Modified and Sportsman competitors for competing at their American Racer home tracks.

AFTON, NY – Add another one.

The 2025 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco is strengthened in 2025 with the addition of a Southern Tier staple in Afton Motorsports Park.

The fairgrounds facility located off Interstate 88 Exit 7 returns to the American Racer Cup following a Thursday announcement that Ron Ford has signed a three-year agreement with the Afton Fair Board to serve as the speedway’s promoter.

The speedway will operate on Saturday nights utilizing American Racer Tires.

The Modified and Sportsman divisions will participate in the ’25 American Racer Cup program. The speedway falls into the North Region category.

Additionally, the “Working Man’s Race” Short Track SuperNationals is back at Afton on Columbus Day weekend in October.

VERNON, NY – For the fifth time in his illustrious career, Matt Sheppard is the 2024 American Racer Cup Champion presented by Sunoco Race Fuels.

Matt Sheppard won the tiebreaker with David Hebert – a regular at Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec – due to his 12 wins at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y.

Sheppard and Hebert tied at 690 points, but Sheppard’s 12 wins carried over the edge, compared to Hebert’s nine at his Friday night home.

The American Racer Cup collects each racer’s 10 best finishes at their registered home track combined with a year-end starting field bonus to calculate a driver’s total points.

In the event of ties, the established tiebreaker is a driver’s number of wins at the participating speedway between Friday, April 12 and Monday, Sept. 2.

Sheppard’s dominant season saw him 12 of the 15 features he entered at his Friday night home track. The dominant season was Sheppard’s second consecutive American Racer Cup title.

The title for Sheppard nets him a total of $11,000 from the American Racer Cup on behalf of presenting sponsors American Racer, distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

A $36,000 purse is divided amongst the top 15 drivers in the overall Modified standings with $10,000 reserved for Sheppard, the overall champion. Sheppard also claims $1,000 as the North Region champion of the American Racer Cup.

In just the second season on American Racer tires, David Hebert put together a championship worthy season at Autodrome Granby, collecting nine wins, including the huge win the ‘Lumberjack Swing’ with the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco.

Hebert nets $5,750 as the overall and North Region runner-up.

Billy Pauch Jr., of Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, N.J., was a distant third at 615 points. The ‘Kid’s Kid’ collects a $5,000 paycheck as the South Region champion and third place overall.

Another Utica-Rome Speedway regular – Alex Yankowski – finishes fourth in the standings at 612 points. Yankowski collects $4,000 for his efforts.

New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway’s Brandon Grosso and Big Diamond (Minersville, Pa.) Speedway’s Louden Reimert finished tied for fifth at 610 points.

Reimert claims the fifth spot with his three wins to Grosso’s two. Reimert takes home $3,250 for fifth and Grosso nets $2,500.

Finishing seventh through 15^th, respectively, were Danny Creeden from Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. (605 points – $2,100); Autodrome Granby’s Mathieu Desjardins (600 – $1,850); Autodrome Granby’s Francois Bernier (596 – $1,500); Jeff Strunk of Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. (592 – $1,250); Brady Fultz, of Woodhull (N. Y.) Raceway (589- $900); New Egypt Speedway’s Justin Grosso (585 – $800); Ajay Potrzebowski II of Dundee, N.Y.’s Outlaw Speedway (572 – $700); Autodrome Granby’s Steve Bernier (566 – $600); and Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway’s Alex Yankowski (564 – $500).

In Sportsman competition, Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway’s Kenny Peoples Jr. and Bridgeport Motorsports Park regular Brian Papiez ended the season deadlocked at 660 points.

On the back of his eight Woodhull victories in ’24, Peoples Jr. wins the tiebreaker and his first career American Racer Cup Championship. The Woodhull regular is the first ever champion from the speedway and nets $2,000 as the overall and North Region champion.

Papiez settles for the runner-up spot, taking home $1,500 as the South Region champion.

Payton Talbot finished the season third and fourth in the American Racer Cup Standings for his efforts and Utica-Rome Speedway and Fonda Speedway. Talbot finished with 655 points at Utica-Rome and 654 at Fonda.

Talbot takes home more money than anyone else at $2,050 for finishing third and fourth overall and second and third in the North Region standings.

Antoine Parent, of Autodrome Granby, came home fifth at 632 points, taking $700 for his Friday night efforts.

Finishing sixth through 15^th, respectively, were fellow Autodrome Granby regular Donovan Lussier (630 – $550); Penn Can Speedway’s Ray Leonard (614 – $800); Ryan Simmons of New Egypt Speedway (610 – $650); Mike Schane, another Penn Can Speedway regular (610 – $500); Woodhull Raceway’s Tim Guild (594 – $250); Travis Hill of Bridgeport Motorsports Park (590 – $300); Big Diamond Speedway’s Kevin Olenick (587 – $150); Isabel Barron of Woodhull Raceway (582 – $100); Matt Ellery of New Egypt Speedway (559 – $100); and fellow New Egypt Speedway regular Nick Van Wickle (557 – $100).

The top-five drivers in the Modified division at all home tracks receive three free tires for first, two for second, one for third, fourth, and fifth.

In the Sportsman division, home track champions receive three tires, second-place two tires and third receives one tire.

The American Racer Cup track champions are determined by a driver’s 10 best finishes at that track.

More than $51,000 in cash will be distributed to American Racer Cup participants.

MILLSBORO, DE – Looking toward the future.

Sunoco Race Fuels and BD Motorsports Media LLC announced on Monday an extended, five-year partnership encompassing the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco, American Racer Cup, Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y., Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown, Del., and Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y.

Sunoco will serve as the official fuel for all BD Motorsports Media LLC entities through 2028.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Sunoco Race Fuels for five more years,” BD Motorsports Media LLC proprietor Brett Deyo said. “The Sunoco Race Fuels brand is nationally recognized as an industry leader.”

BD Motorsports Media LLC and Sunoco Race Fuels joined forces first for the ’18 season, meaning the relationship will stretch – at the very least – the length of a decade.

Entering its 11^th season, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman programs visit 19 facilities in six states and six Canadian provinces in ’24, kicking off Feb. 6-10 at All-Tech Raceway in Lake City, Fla., with the ‘Sunshine Swing’ presented by Capitol Custom Trailers & Coaches Feb. 6-10.

The American Racer Cup continues its tradition of “winning with weekly racers” by rewarding Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman drivers competing at American Racer facilities in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and the Canadian province of Quebec.

Fonda Speedway, featuring an entirely new clay surface for ’24, opens its season on April 20 with the $12,000-to-win Jumpin’ Jack Johnson Memorial event, one week after an Open Practice on April 13.

Utica-Rome Speedway remembers late promoter Alex Friesen with its Season Opener on April 19 offering $6,800 to the winner.  A pair of Open Practice sessions (April 12 & 16) precede the lid-lifter.

Georgetown Speedway kicks off the Northeast Modified season on Saturday, March 9 with the Short Track Super Series Jake Marine Memorial paying $8,500 to the winner. Two practice sessions are planned on March 2 and March 8.

MILLSBORO, DE – For the fourth time in his illustrious career, Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard is the 2023 American Racer Cup Champion presented by Sunoco Race Fuels.

After losing out on the 2022 championship on a tiebreaker, Sheppard left no doubt in 2023, with his 11 wins at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., netting him his first American Racer Cup Championship since 2019.

Sheppard was the only driver to reach the 700-point maximum threshold, completing the 2023 season with two wins in three nights at his Friday night home track.

The American Racer Cup collects each racer’s 10 best finishes at their registered home track combined with a year-end starting field bonus to calculate a driver’s total points.

In the event of a tie for the title, the established tiebreaker is a driver’s number of wins at the participating speedway between Friday, April 14 and Monday, Sept. 4.

In a rain-soaked season in which Utica-Rome Speedway only registered 15 features in the American Racer Cup season, Sheppard still clicked off the 11 wins to clinch the 2023 championship.

The title for Sheppard nets him a total of $11,000 from the American Racer Cup on behalf of presenting sponsors American Racer, distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

A $36,000 purse is divided amongst the top-15 drivers in the overall Modified standings with $10,000 reserved for Sheppard, the overall champion. Sheppard also claims $1,000 as the North Region champion of the American Racer Cup.

Defending champion Ryan Godown settled for the runner-up spot this year after his stellar year at N.J.’s New Egypt Speedway. The Ringoes, N.J., native won six times this season at his Saturday night home, for a 655-point total and second place.

Godown takes home $6,000 as the runner-up in the overall standings and the South Region title.

Orefield, Pa.’s Brett Kressley came home third in the overall standings, just five points behind Godown. Kressley claimed three wins at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., this season, enough for 650 points.

Kressley also finished seventh in the overall standings at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa. In total, Kressley takes home $7,000 for his overall finishes, in addition to second and third, respectively, in the South Region standings.

For the first time ever, two Canadian tracks joined the American Racer Cup, and St. Damase, Quebec’s David Hebert came home fourth for his efforts at Autodrome Granby with 640 points. Hebert nets $4,250 as the runner-up in North Region standings and the overall fourth-place finisher.

A tie for fifth place rounds out the top five, as a pair of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway regulars notched 635-points each.

Ajay Potrzebowski and Joe Dgien each share the prize money for fifth and sixth in the overall standings and third and fourth in the North Region standings. In total, they’ll each receive $2,675 for their 2023 efforts.

Finishing eighth through 15th, respectively, were Jeff Strunk of Grandview Speedway (625 points – $1,850); Duane Howard of Big Diamond Speedway (624 – $1,500); Brett Tonkin of Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park (619 – $1,250); Craig Von Dohren of Grandview Speedway (617 – $900); Doug Manmiller, also of Grandview (610 – $800); Billy Pauch Jr. of New Egypt Speedway (606 – $700); and 14^th and 15^th both went to Louden Reimert at Big Diamond and New Egypt Speedway. Louden had 602 points at each track, netting $1,100 total.

On the Sportsman side, Durhamville, N.Y.’s Matt Janczuk notched his third consecutive American Racer Cup Championship at Utica-Rome Speedway.

Janczuk once again clicked off a 10-win season, achieving the maximum 700 points and earning a $2,000 paycheck for his championship efforts.

Upper Makefield, Pa.’s Joe Toth comes home as the runner-up with 670 points at the New Egypt Speedway. Toth collects $1,500 as the overall runner-up and the South Region champion.

Payton Talbot claims both the third and fourth (658 and 656 points) positions for his work at the Utica-Rome and Fonda speedways. Ultimately, Talbot takes home the biggest check from the Sportsman American Racer Cup, with a $2,050 paycheck for his efforts at both tracks.

Rounding out the top five was Kenny Peoples Jr. with 650 points at the Woodhull Raceway. Peoples Jr. nets a $700 total for his fifth-place finish.

The remainder of the top-15 were Logan Watt of Grandview Speedway (636 points – $850); Mike Schane of Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. (613 – $700); Travis Hill of N.J.’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park (612 – $550); Dale Welty of Afton (608 – $400); Matt Brewer of Afton (602 – $250); Chad Edwards of Fonda (590 – $200); Logan Watt of Big Diamond (589 – $250); Isabel Barron of Woodhull (578 – $100); Todd Titus of Afton (577 – $100); and Matt Ellery of New Egypt (569 – $100).

The top-five drivers in the Modified division at all home tracks receive three free tires for first, two for second, one for third, fourth, and fifth.

In the Sportsman division, home track champions receive three tires, second-place two tires and third receives one tire.

The American Racer Cup track champions are determined by a driver’s 10 best finishes at that track.

More than $51,000 in cash will be distributed to American Racer Cup participants.
