The Final Countdown: American Racer Cup Overall Champions Decided Labor Day Weekend

INDIANA, PA – The final countdown.
The 2025 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels reaches its season-long checkered flag this weekend, resulting in Modified and Sportsman champions being crowned.
Again, this season, the American Racer Cup rewards competitors for racing regularly at the 14 tracks ranging geographically across New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Quebec, Canada utilizing American Racer tires.
Points will be finalized on Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 1.
Matt Sheppard, using Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., as his home track, took over the lead with his victory at the half-mile oval last Friday. Sheppard has reached his final total as there is no scheduled Modified racing at Utica-Rome this weekend. Sheppard has amassed 660 points.
Quebec’s David Hebert – a dominant force at Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec – is second with 648 points. Autodrome Granby will be in competition this Friday (Aug. 29).
Danny Creeden’s Saturday success at Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park leaves him third in the points with 643 points. Afton will be open this Sunday (Aug. 31) for the ‘Afton Action 50’ giving the Wurtsboro, N.Y., driver one more opportunity to collect points.
Michael Maresca of Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., is fourth with 625 points and Dillon Steuer of Bohemia, N.Y., completes the top five with Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park as his home. Steuer has earned 618 points.
Outlaw will be in action Friday, while Bridgeport is silent for the holiday weekend.
Sheppard is the only driver inside the top five with a previous American Racer Cup championship, having won from 2017-2019 running at Outlaw and 2023-2024 at Utica-Rome.

Modified racers compete for more than $40,000 in point fund cash. The top 15 finishers in the overall standings share in $36,000: 1. $10,000; 2. $5,000; 3. $4,000; 4. $3,500; 5. $2,500; 6. $2,000; 7. $1,750; 8. $1,500; 9. $1,250; 10. $1,000; 11. $900; 12. $800; 13. $700; 14. $600; 15. $500.
Sunoco Race Fuels also presents North and South regional point funds as follows: 1. $1,000; 2. $750; 3. $500; 4. $350; 5. $250.
Sheppard (North) and Steuer (South) are the regional leaders.
The Sportsman American Racer Cup is led by Payton Talbot of South New Berlin, N.Y., a Utica-Rome Speedway regular, with 690 points. Like his Utica-Rome counterpart Sheppard, Talbot has reached his final total with no Sportsman racing scheduled for the Vernon oval this weekend.
Talbot is seeking his first American Racer Cup Sportsman crown.
Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway’s Chad Edwards sits second with 656 points. There is no racing at Fonda this Saturday due to the 184th annual Fonda Fair.
Tyler Peet, representing Utica-Rome, is third with 653 points. Afton Motorsports Park regular Travis Green is fourth with 652 points and will be able to compete this Sunday. Kenny Peoples Jr. of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway is fifth with 645 points. Woodhull is operational this Saturday (Aug. 30).

Sportsman competitors share in a $6,750 overall point fund: 1. $1,500; 2. $1,000; 3. $750; 4. $600; 5. $500; 6. $450; 7. $400; 8. $350; 9. $300; 10. $250; 11. $200. 12. $150; 13-15. $100.
Sunoco Race Fuels regional point funds for North and South will also be paid totaling $3,000: 1. $500; 2. $400; 3. $300; 4. $200; 5. $100.
Regional leaders are Talbot (North) and Ray Leonard of Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. (South).
Hundreds of tire certificates are also distributed to Modified and Sportsman competitors.
