13th American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Season Kicks Off Friday, April 15

MILLSBORO, DE – For the 13th consecutive season, American Racer Tires, Lias Tire Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Insinger Performance have teamed up to “win with weekly racers” in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels – launched in 2010 to reward drivers competing at American Racer home tracks – gets its 2022 championship battles for Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman underway this weekend. Points begin tabulating on Friday, April 15 and will run through Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Thirteen tracks again comprise the ’22 American Racer Cup with Modified and Sportsman competitors battling for $51,450 in point fund cash plus hundreds of tire certificates.

The Modified program got underway in 2010 with Keystone State driver Duane Howard taking the inaugural championship. Howard went on to win four American Racer Cup crowns (’10, ’12, ’13 and ’14).

Matt Sheppard is a three-time American Racer Cup champion, taking the titles in ’17, ’18 and ’19.

Stewart Friesen has topped the charts for the past two years. Friesen is the ’20 and ’21 champion.

Single-year American Racer Cup Modified champions include Billy Pauch Sr. (’11), Rick Laubach (’15) and Andy Bachetti (’16).

The American Racer Cup Sportsman program launched in ’13 with Delaware’s Jordan Watson etching his name in history as the first champion. There have been no repeat Sportsman champions since: Jared Umbenhauer (’14), Alan Barker (’15), Andrew Smith (’16), Matt Stangle (’17), Alex Yankowski (’18), Doug Hendricks (’19), Brian Hirthler (’20) and Matt Janczuk (’21).

Registration for the ’22 Cup ends on May 1.
