Oh, Canada: Dominic Lussier Makes History with Autodrome Granby & Le RPM

SAINT HYACINTHE, QUEBEC – Oh, Canada!

For the first time in its decade-long history, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco crosses the border into Canada during the 2023 season.

Promoter Dominic Lussier presents the inaugural STSS ‘Lumberjack Swing’ for the River Valley Builders North Region big-block/small-block Modifieds at his two Quebec-based venues: Autodrome Granby in Granby (Tuesday, July 25) and Le RPM Speedway in Saint-Marcel-de-Richelieu (Wednesday, July 26). A rain date for either event is set for Thursday (July 27).

$68,300 in purse money has been posted for the groundbreaking events, which will offer $10,000 to win minimum and $500 to take the green flag each night for 60 laps.

That’s just the start of making history.

Both Autodrome Granby and Le RPM will utilize American Racer tires for the ’23 campaign and have joined the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels, providing racers in the Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman divisions will the opportunity to compete for more than $51,000-plus in additional point fund money and hundreds of tire giveaway certificates.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Short Track Super Series brand to Quebec in the series’ 10th anniversary season,” STSS founder Brett Deyo said. “Not only having Autodrome Granby and Le RPM as series events, but as part of the American Racer Cup family, strengthens our brand in a new territory.

“I look forward to working closely with Dominic (Lussier) and his staff well into the future.”

During the off-season, all four BD Motorsports Media LLC facilities – Delaware International Speedway and Georgetown Speedway in Delaware and Fonda Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway in New York – joined Autodrome Granby and Le RPM as part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, strengthening the relationship.

“We’re expecting to see some drivers cross the border and compete in search of NASCAR National points,” Deyo added. “It should produce even more excitement for fans watching our drivers compete on both sides of the border.”

One-on-One: American Racer Cup Match Races for Modifieds & Crate 602 Sportsman at Afton

AFTON, NY – One-on-One Match races will return when the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco invades Afton Motorsports Park on Fri.-Sat. Oct. 7-8.

The 14th American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals at the picturesque Afton Motorsports Park features One-on-One Match Races for both the Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman over the weekend of racing.

The top representative from each track in American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels standings (back to fifth place in track points) will be eligible to compete in the one-on-one match races for each division (Modifieds or Sportsman).

Once representatives are determined, drivers will pull numbers, with the lowest number racing first, having to climb their way up the proverbial ladder.

The driver who wins continues marching on until they are defeated or win the final match race and is thus crowned champion.

The Modified champion will walk away with $2,000 cash Saturday with $1,000 cash reserved for the Sportsman match race champion Friday.

Each participant in both the Modified and Sportsman Match Races will receive a free American Racer tire certificate courtesy of Lias Tire in Indiana, Pa.

The American Racer Cup Sportsman One-on-One Match races will take place Friday (Oct. 7) along with the Open vs. Crate Sportsman challenge paying $2,000-to-win with the posted gambler’s fee ($1,500 without).

Also on tap for Friday is the championship event for the CRSA 305 Sprint Cars, the Limited Sportsman (20 laps, $300-to-win), the Slingshots (20 laps, $300-to-win), and the STSS Modifieds taking part in open practice with the two quick timers locking into Saturday’s redraw.

The 50-lap, $5,500-plus STSS Modified main headlines Saturday as a non-points event for the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds. The American Racer Cup One-on-One Modified Match races will also take place on Saturday night.

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman join the program in the Championship Round of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region. The STSS Sportsman go for 25-laps and a $1,500 top prize with a champion being crowned at the completion of the event.

The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Racing Series rounds out the Saturday program.

The event will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).

13th American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Season Kicks Off Friday, April 15

MILLSBORO, DE – For the 13th consecutive season, American Racer Tires, Lias Tire Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Insinger Performance have teamed up to “win with weekly racers” in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels – launched in 2010 to reward drivers competing at American Racer home tracks – gets its 2022 championship battles for Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman underway this weekend. Points begin tabulating on Friday, April 15 and will run through Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Thirteen tracks again comprise the ’22 American Racer Cup with Modified and Sportsman competitors battling for $51,450 in point fund cash plus hundreds of tire certificates.

The Modified program got underway in 2010 with Keystone State driver Duane Howard taking the inaugural championship. Howard went on to win four American Racer Cup crowns (’10, ’12, ’13 and ’14).

Matt Sheppard is a three-time American Racer Cup champion, taking the titles in ’17, ’18 and ’19.

Stewart Friesen has topped the charts for the past two years. Friesen is the ’20 and ’21 champion.

Single-year American Racer Cup Modified champions include Billy Pauch Sr. (’11), Rick Laubach (’15) and Andy Bachetti (’16).

The American Racer Cup Sportsman program launched in ’13 with Delaware’s Jordan Watson etching his name in history as the first champion. There have been no repeat Sportsman champions since: Jared Umbenhauer (’14), Alan Barker (’15), Andrew Smith (’16), Matt Stangle (’17), Alex Yankowski (’18), Doug Hendricks (’19), Brian Hirthler (’20) and Matt Janczuk (’21).

Registration for the ’22 Cup ends on May 1.

Winning with Weekly Racers: 2022 American Racer Cup Registration Ends May 1

MILLSBORO, DE – Time is running out for competitors to register for the 2022 American Racer Cup.

Racers who are planning on competing at any of the 13 American Racer Cup tracks in the Modified or Sportsman division can enter. Registration is open to competitors through May 1.

The American Racer Cup ranks drivers by their 10 best finishes at each participating home track. If a driver competes at more than one home track, they must be registered separately for each track.

Finishes begin being tallied on April 15. The final day points can be earned toward the ’22 American Racer Cup is Sept. 5.  

The American Racer Cup weekly point breakdown is as follows: 1) 60; 2) 55; 3) 50; 4) 48; 5) 46; 6) 44; 7) 42; 8) 40; 9) 38; 10) 36; 11) 34; 12) 32; 13) 30; 14) 28; 15) 26; 16) 24; 17) 23; 18) 22; 19) 21; 20) 20; 21) 18; 22) 16; 23) 14; 24) 12; 25) 11; 26-28) 10.

At the end of the season, a starting field bonus is issued to competitors based upon the number of cars starting feature events at their participating speedway from April 15 to Sept. 5.  

The top-15 Modified competitors share a $36,000 point fund, with $10,000 going to the champion. The top-15 Sportsman competitors will share a $6,750 point fund, with $1,000 allocated to the winner. There are additional bonus dollars available through Insinger Performance in the North Region ($5,700 for Modifieds and $3,000 for Sportsman).

The total cash scheduled to be distributed in ’22 is $51,450.

Registration is Open for 2022 American Racer Cup

MILLSBORO, DE – Registration is now open for the 2022 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco.

Racers who plan to compete at any of the 13 registered American Racer Cup home tracks can now register for the upcoming season.

More than $51,000 in point fund money was distributed to American Racer Cup Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman competitors last season. Registered teams also shared in hundreds of tire certificate giveaways.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen secured the American Racer Cup top prize in the ’21 season, exactly 10 races at his registered home track of Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y.

Friesen’s earnings for the ’21 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco totaled $13,250 for his weekly racing at Fonda Speedway and Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway.

Oneida, N.Y.’s Matt Janczuk was the Sportsman champion, winning nine times at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., to garner the $1,500 overall top prize and the North Region title upping his total to a cool $2,000.

Registered drivers for ’22 will be entered into the first tire giveaway taking place on Saturday, Jan. 22 during the Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show in Oaks, Pa. Two tires will be given away to Modified and Sportsman competitors via a random drawing shown on the American Racer Cup Facebook live.

Drivers will also be able to register at the Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show at the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco booth.

American Racer Cup Starts 12th Season April 16; Registration Closes April 30

INDIANA, PA – For the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels, 2021 will mark the 12th year that American Racer and Lias Tire together with Sunoco Race Fuels and Insinger Performance are rewarding teams who compete weekly at American Racer tracks.

The “Winning with Weekly Racers” program got its start in 2010 with Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., taking the inaugural Modified championship. Three years later, the Sportsman division was added and Jordan Watson of Milford, Del., was the first champion for that division.

Every year since ‘13 American Racer has crowned both Modified and Sportsman champions, along with hundreds of other bonuses and certificates to drivers who race weekly at American Racer tracks.

The program is presented by American Racer Tires and distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., and Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

American Racer Cup Kicks Off 12th Season of Winning with Weekly Racers

The first American Racer Cup ‘pre-season’ giveaway took place in January on Facebook LIVE. Four free American Racer tires were distributed via random draw to Danny Creeden and Bobby Watkins (Modified) and Ken Eckert Jr. and Danielle Smith (Sportsman).

The next giveaway – for six total tires (three Modified and three Sportsman) – will take place on March 13 during the drivers’ meeting for the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco opener at Del.’s Georgetown Speedway.  

All registered drivers as of March 13 will be entered into the drawing shown live on Facebook.

Matt Sheppard (Modified) & Doug Hendricks (Sportsman) Declared 2019 American Racer Cup Overall Champions

INDIANA, PA – After a summer full of racing at 14 facilities in four states, the 2019 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco champions have been declared.

Matt Sheppard (Modified) and Doug Hendricks (Sportsman) lead this year’s contingent. Competitors at tracks utilizing American Racer tires in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania vied for supremacy in the ‘home-track’ program presented by American Racer Tires, Lias Tire Company, Sunoco Race Fuels and Insinger Performance.

A total of 299 competitors registered and earned points during the ’19 season: 173 in Modified and 126 in Sportsman.

The American Racer Cup utilizes a driver’s best 10 finishes to determine the overall standings with bonus points figured in for each track’s year-long average starting field.

A total of $51,450 in cash will be distributed to top performers in addition to hundreds of tire certificates which have been handed out during the season in addition to many more to come this fall.

Using Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., as his home track, Savannah, N.Y.’s Sheppard is the American Racer Cup Modified champion for the third consecutive year.  Sheppard assembled a ‘perfect 10’ on the season, winning 10 feature events at Tyler Siri’s facility and accrued 670 total points.

The overall American Racer Cup title is worth $10,000 for Sheppard.

Duane Howard, representing Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., tallied 660 points – just 10 shy of Sheppard – and finished second overall, worth $5,000.

Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway joined the American Racer Cup family this season and Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., placed third overall ($4,000) calling the Track of Champions home around his NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule. Friesen totaled 650 points.

Grandview’s Jeff Strunk of Boyertown, Pa., rallied to fourth with 542 points ($3,500) with Jordan Watson of Milford, Del., calling Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., placing fifth (640 points – $2,500).

Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa., tied Watson with 640 points for his Big Diamond Speedway (Minersville, Pa.), season. But Watson’s six wins to Von Dohren’s five relegated Von Dohren to sixth ($2,000). Rocky Warner of Gloversville, N.Y., earned 637 points and $1,750 for finishing seventh racing at Fonda. Craig Von Dohren, this time for Grandview, was eighth with 637 points but had four wins to Warner’s five, so he takes home $1,500.

The Pauch family – Billy Sr. and Jr. – authored identical seasons at the New Jersey tracks. Billy Jr. at New Egypt and Billy Sr. at Bridgeport both accrued 635 points with five wins, three seconds and two thirds. Ninth-place pays $1,250 and 10th is $1,000.

Completing the top-15 are Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., from Big Diamond (632 points – $900); Brett Kressley of Orefield, Pa., from Grandview (623 points – $800); David Van Horn Jr. of Ringoes, N.J., from New Egypt (616 points – $700); Billy Van Pelt of Westfield, Pa., from Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway (615 points – $600); and Brian Malcolm of Lake Ariel, Pa., from Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. (615 points – $500). Van Pelt had five wins to Malcolm’s three.

Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa., sponsors separate North and South Region point funds, as well.

The top-five North Region drivers are Sheppard ($1,000), Friesen ($750), Warner ($500), Van Pelt ($350) and Malcolm ($250).

In the South Region, Howard ($1,000) won over Strunk ($750), Watson ($500), Von Dohren ($350) from Big Diamond and Von Dohren from Grandview ($250).

Doug Hendricks of Orwigsburg, Pa., put his name in the history books as the American Racer Cup Sportsman overall champion. Hendricks raced weekly at Big Diamond Speedway and used seven wins in his best 10 finishes to rack up 655 points. The overall Sportsman championship pays $1,500.

Hendricks and Brad Brightbill, a Sinking Spring, Pa., native who competes at Grandview Speedway, were deadlocked with 655 points. Brightbill had four wins at Grandview to Hendricks’ aforementioned seven, so Hendricks is the champion.

Brightbill receives $1,000 for his efforts.

Michael Schane of Lake Ariel, Pa., from Penn Can Speedway finishes third with 635 points ($750) followed by Tim Hartman Jr. of Niskayuna, N.Y., representing Fonda with 633 points ($600) and Delaware International Speedway regular Scott Hitchens of Dagsboro, Del. with 620 points ($500).

Finishing sixth through 15th, respectively, were Brandon Edgar of Lehighton, Pa., from Big Diamond with 607 points ($450); Bridgeport Speedway’s Jim Gallagher Jr. of Beckett, N.J., with 602 points ($400); Rocky Warner of Gloversville, N.Y., from Glen Ridge Motorsports Park in Fultonville, N.Y., with 594 points ($350); Kenny Hammond of Berkshire, N.Y., representing Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y. with 593 points ($300); Bridgeport’s Eric Kormann of Vineland, N.J. with 592 points ($250); Dennis Clapperton of Masonville, N.Y., from Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park with 590 points ($200); Fonda’s Brian Calabrese of Johnstown, N.Y., with 588 points ($150); Delaware International regular Adam White of Laurel, Del., totaling 586 points ($100); Broadalbin, N.Y.’s Adam McAuliffe from Fonda Speedway with 585 points ($100); and Outlaw Speedway’s Brian Fish of Burdett, N.Y., with 583 points ($100).

Like their Modified counterparts, Insinger Performance presented regional point funds for the Sportsman.

In the North Region, Schane ($500) won over Hartman ($400), Warner ($300), Hammond ($200) and Clapperton ($100).

The South Region went to Hendricks ($500) followed by Brightbill ($400), Hitchens ($300), Edgar ($200) and Gallagher ($100).

Drivers placing in the individual American Racer Cup home track standings will be rewarded, as well.

The top-five drivers in the Modified division at all home tracks receive five free tires for first, four for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth.

In the Sportsman division, home track champions receive two tires, second-place one tire and third $85 off a tire certificate.

All certificates will be ready for pick-up at the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals 12 to be held at Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park Friday-Saturday October 11-12. On Friday night (Oct. 11), Sportsman One-On-One Match Races will be held, with Modified Match Races on Saturday (Oct. 12).

Those unable to attend the Afton event will receive certificates in the mail after the Oct. 11-12 weekend.

The point fund will be distributed in late December/early January.

The final weekend to earn points for the 2019 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco is upon us!  Matt Sheppard of Outlaw Speedway holds a slim 5-point lead over Duane Howard of Grandview Speedway in the Modified ranks. Brad Brightbill of Grandview Speedway has a lead of just 5 points on Doug Hendricks of Big Diamond Speedway in the Sportsman division.
