2022 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Hits Summer Stretch

MILLSBORO, DE – Summer stretch.

As the calendar flips to the month of June, weekly racers prepare for the ‘dog days’ of summer as the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels standings begin to take shape.

Registered drivers for both Modified and Sportsman competition at each of the 13 American Racer Cup tracks are competing for the top prize in their respective divisions.

Registered Modified drivers are competing for a $10,000-plus championship at the end of the American Racer Cup season. The cash point fund for the Modifieds totals $36,000 – distributed to the top-15 in American Racer Cup points – in addition to tire certificate giveaways throughout the season.

There is an additional $5,700 in regional money available to Modified competitors thanks to Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

A driver’s 10 best finishes at their American Racer home track from Friday, April 15 to Monday, Sept. 5 will be tallied. Bonus points are awarded to competitors at year-end, based upon the average number of cars starting feature events at their participating speedway.

Accumulated points based on finishes will be added with the car count bonuses to determine a final point total at season’s end.

Mother Nature has wreaked havoc in the early going on several American Racer Cup tracks, delaying their seasons hitting full swing, while other tracks have fired off without a hitch.

Defending champion Stewart Friesen leads the Modified in the early going, with a pair of wins to his credit at his Saturday night home, Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway. Friesen’s lead is slim however, as Belle Mead, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso continues his dominant ways at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway.

Grosso has won five times at New Egypt, however two of those wins came prior to the beginning of the American Racer Cup season, giving Friesen the edge in the early going. Grosso’s Saturday night rival at New Egypt – Danny Bouc – currently sits third in the early going.

The Pipersville, Pa. native sits two points ahead of Duanesburg, N.Y.’s Ronnie Johnson, another Fonda Speedway regular. Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard rounds out the top five, 48 markers behind Friesen at Friday night home of Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y.

A $6,750 point fund is given out to the Sportsman at the end of the American Racer Cup season. With free product giveaways and Insinger Performance regional cash included, more than $10,000 is handed out to Sportsman racers.

Fonda Speedway’s Chad Edwards leads the way in the early going in pursuit of the $1,500 top prize. Edwards holds a 40-point advantage over fellow Fonda regular Payton Talbot and 90-point advantage over Brian Calabrese. Fonda Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway competitors occupy the top eight spots, dodging the raindrops that have affected several other tracks in the early going.

13th American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Season Kicks Off Friday, April 15

MILLSBORO, DE – For the 13th consecutive season, American Racer Tires, Lias Tire Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Insinger Performance have teamed up to “win with weekly racers” in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels – launched in 2010 to reward drivers competing at American Racer home tracks – gets its 2022 championship battles for Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman underway this weekend. Points begin tabulating on Friday, April 15 and will run through Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Thirteen tracks again comprise the ’22 American Racer Cup with Modified and Sportsman competitors battling for $51,450 in point fund cash plus hundreds of tire certificates.

The Modified program got underway in 2010 with Keystone State driver Duane Howard taking the inaugural championship. Howard went on to win four American Racer Cup crowns (’10, ’12, ’13 and ’14).

Matt Sheppard is a three-time American Racer Cup champion, taking the titles in ’17, ’18 and ’19.

Stewart Friesen has topped the charts for the past two years. Friesen is the ’20 and ’21 champion.

Single-year American Racer Cup Modified champions include Billy Pauch Sr. (’11), Rick Laubach (’15) and Andy Bachetti (’16).

The American Racer Cup Sportsman program launched in ’13 with Delaware’s Jordan Watson etching his name in history as the first champion. There have been no repeat Sportsman champions since: Jared Umbenhauer (’14), Alan Barker (’15), Andrew Smith (’16), Matt Stangle (’17), Alex Yankowski (’18), Doug Hendricks (’19), Brian Hirthler (’20) and Matt Janczuk (’21).

Registration for the ’22 Cup ends on May 1.

Winning with Weekly Racers: 2022 American Racer Cup Registration Ends May 1

MILLSBORO, DE – Time is running out for competitors to register for the 2022 American Racer Cup.

Racers who are planning on competing at any of the 13 American Racer Cup tracks in the Modified or Sportsman division can enter. Registration is open to competitors through May 1.

The ‘Winning with Weekly Racers’ program got its start in 2010 with Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., taking the inaugural Modified championship as a representative of Pa.’s Grandview Speedway. Three years later, the Sportsman division was added and Jordan Watson of Milford, Del., was the first champion for that division utilizing Delaware International Speedway (Delmar, Del.) as his home track.

Modified participating speedways in the ‘22 American Racer Cup are as follows: in New York – Accord, Afton, Five Mile Point, Fonda, Outlaw, Utica-Rome and Woodhull; in Pennsylvania – Big Diamond, Grandview and Penn Can; in New Jersey – Bridgeport and New Egypt; and in Delaware – Delaware International.

Sportsman participating speedways in the ‘22 American Racer Cup are as follows: in New York – Accord (Crate), Afton (Crate), Five Mile Point (Crate), Fonda (Crate), Outlaw (Crate), Utica-Rome (Crate) and Woodhull (Crate); in Pennsylvania – Big Diamond (Crate), Grandview (Open) and Penn Can (Crate); in New Jersey – Bridgeport (Crate) and New Egypt (Crate); and in Delaware – Delaware International (Crate).

The American Racer Cup ranks drivers by their 10 best finishes at each participating home track. If a driver competes at more than one home track, they must be registered separately for each track.

Finishes begin being tallied on April 15. The final day points can be earned toward the ’22 American Racer Cup is Sept. 5.  

The American Racer Cup weekly point breakdown is as follows: 1) 60; 2) 55; 3) 50; 4) 48; 5) 46; 6) 44; 7) 42; 8) 40; 9) 38; 10) 36; 11) 34; 12) 32; 13) 30; 14) 28; 15) 26; 16) 24; 17) 23; 18) 22; 19) 21; 20) 20; 21) 18; 22) 16; 23) 14; 24) 12; 25) 11; 26-28) 10.

At the end of the season, a starting field bonus is issued to competitors based upon the number of cars starting feature events at their participating speedway from April 15 to Sept. 5.  

The top-15 Modified competitors share a $36,000 point fund, with $10,000 going to the champion. The top-15 Sportsman competitors will share a $6,750 point fund, with $1,000 allocated to the winner. There are additional bonus dollars available through Insinger Performance in the North Region ($5,700 for Modifieds and $3,000 for Sportsman).

The total cash scheduled to be distributed in ’22 is $51,450.

Registration is Open for 2022 American Racer Cup

MILLSBORO, DE – Registration is now open for the 2022 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco.

Racers who plan to compete at any of the 13 registered American Racer Cup home tracks can now register for the upcoming season.

More than $51,000 in point fund money was distributed to American Racer Cup Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman competitors last season. Registered teams also shared in hundreds of tire certificate giveaways.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen secured the American Racer Cup top prize in the ’21 season, exactly 10 races at his registered home track of Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y.

Friesen’s earnings for the ’21 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco totaled $13,250 for his weekly racing at Fonda Speedway and Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway.

Oneida, N.Y.’s Matt Janczuk was the Sportsman champion, winning nine times at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., to garner the $1,500 overall top prize and the North Region title upping his total to a cool $2,000.

Registered drivers for ’22 will be entered into the first tire giveaway taking place on Saturday, Jan. 22 during the Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show in Oaks, Pa. Two tires will be given away to Modified and Sportsman competitors via a random drawing shown on the American Racer Cup Facebook live.

Drivers will also be able to register at the Motorsports Race Car & Trade Show at the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco booth.

Stewart Friesen (Fonda) & Matt Janczuk (Utica-Rome) Earn American Racer Cup 2021 Top Honors

MILLSBORO, DE– Back-to-Back.

For the second consecutive season and the second time in his career, Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen claimed the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels championship.

Friesen’s dominant season at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway, saw him reach the ‘perfect 10’ in the American Racer Cup season. The American Racer Cup collects each racer’s 10 best finishes at their registered home track combined with a year-end starting field bonus to calculate a driver’s total points.

The American Racer Cup season began way back on Friday, April 16 and concluded on Monday, September 6.

Friesen claimed exactly 10 wins at Fonda Speedway to go with Fonda’s 100-point car count bonus to give him the maximum 700-point total. Friesen’s season will award him a total of $11,000 from the American Racer Cup on behalf of presenting sponsors American Racer, distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

Friesen also finished sixth overall via his Friday home track of Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., for a total of $13,250 for choosing American Racer facilities as his weekly stops.

A $36,000 purse is dispersed between the top-15 drivers in the overall Modified standings with $10,000 reserved to Friesen, the overall champion. Friesen’s dominance also claimed him $1,000 as the North Region champion of the American Racer Cup.

The overall runner-up came from Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park as Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown. Godown claimed seven wins in the American Racer Cup season giving him a 680-point season total. Godown pockets $6,000 as the overall runner-up and South Region champion.

Grandview Speedway (Bechtelsville, Pa.) regular Craig Von Dohren picked up six wins and three runner-up finishes, good enough for third in the overall American Racer Cup season with 675-points. Von Dohren’s efforts will award him a $4,750 total.

Utica-Rome Speedway champion Matt Sheppard joined Von Dohren as a six-time winner at his registered home track. Utica-Rome’s 90-point home track point bonus, opposed to Grandview’s 100, left Sheppard five-points short of Von Dohren. Sheppard takes home a $4,250 total.

Von Dohren’s fellow Grandview Speedway regular, Orefield, Pa.’s Brett Kressley rounded out the top five in overall standings with 656 points, and $3,000 total.

Finishing sixth through 15th, respectively, Stewart Friesen of Utica-Rome (653 points – $2,250); Billy Pauch Jr of New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. (637 – $2,100); Rocky Warner of Fonda (635 – $1,850); Kevin Hartnett of Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. (632 – $1,500); Brian Malcolm of Penn Can (618 – $1,150); Mike Gular of New Egypt (618 – $1,150); Andy Bachetti of Utica-Rome (613 – $800); Ronnie Johnson of Fonda (611 – $700); Dominick Buffalino of Bridgeport (610 – $600); and Alex Yankowski of Bridgeport (603 – $500).  

On the Sportsman side of the American Racer Cup, Utica-Rome Speedway champion Matt Janczuk was a nine-time winner, garnering him 695-points. Janczuk claims the overall championship worth $1,500 and the North Region title, for a grand total of $2,000.

Bridgeport Motorsports Park regular Sammy Martz Jr.’s career year in 2021 was good enough to make him the runner-up in the overall standings and the South Region champion with 660-points. Martz Jr.’s four wins and four second-place finishes will pocket him a total of $1,400.

Stephen Kemery, another Bridgeport Motorsports Park regular, rounded out the top three in the overall standings, just 14-points behind Martz Jr. Kemery will take home $1,050 from the American Racer Cup for his efforts.

Outlaw Speedway’s (Dundee, N.Y.) Alex Payne finished with 634 points, good for $1,000 with regional money added in. Despite out-pointing Kemery based on finishes, Payne ends up 12-points shy of Kemery for third based on the car count bonus points (100 for Bridgeport, 80 for Outlaw).

Penn Can Speedway’s Ray Leonard rounded out the top-five in Sportsman competition with 625-points, good enough for an $800 payout.

The remainder of the top-15 were Chad Edwards of Fonda (621 points – $650); Brett Tonkin of Afton Motorsports Park Crate Sportsman in Afton, N.Y. (614 – $500); Brian Hirthler of Grandview (608 – $650); Jim Rothwell of Afton Open Sportsman (607 – $300); Kyle Rohner representing Accord Speedway in Accord, N.Y. (602 – $250); Brian Calabrese of Utica-Rome (600 – $200); Payton Talbot, also of Utica-Rome (599 – $150); Dave Rosa of Afton Crate Sportsman (599 – $100); Mark Mortensen of Fonda (595 – $100); and Dave Rosa of Afton Open Sportsman (585 – $100).

Matt Ellery of Bridgeport was fourth in South Region standings, 16th overall, awarding him $200 and Ryan Simmons of New Egypt Speedway was 5th in the South Region, 17th overall, receiving $100.

The top-five drivers in the Modified division at all home tracks receive five free tires for first, four for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth.

In the Sportsman division, home track champions receive three tires, second-place two tires and third receives one tire.

The American Racer Cup track champions are determined by a driver’s 10 best finishes at that track.

More than $51,000 in cash will be distributed to American Racer Cup participants in December.

Down to a Handful: Five Weeks Remain in 2021 American Racer Cup Battle

MILLSBORO, DE – Down to a handful.

Only five weekends remain in the 2021 American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels season.

Registered drivers have been competing since mid-April, compiling their best 10 finishes at their home tracks toward the American Racer Cup standings. The American Racer Cup season concludes on Sept. 6.

Each driver’s 10 best finishes at their registered home track are combined with a car count bonus, based on the average number of cars starting a feature at their home track, to compile each driver’s year-end American Racer Cup point total.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen currently sits perched atop the Modified standings.

Friesen’s nine wins at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway have him leading by 44 points ahead of Grandview (Pa.) Speedway’s Craig Von Dohren. Friesen, however, only has two more chances to pick up his 10th win, as his registered home track prepares for the annual Fonda Fair, cutting the season short on August 14.

Another Grandview regular, Brett Kressley, occupies third place at 649 points, two behind Von Dohren and 46 behind Friesen. Fonda’s Rocky Warner, the leader at the halfway point of the American Racer Cup, has fallen to fourth, 68 points behind his fellow Fonda regular.

Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park regular Ryan Godown rounds out the top-five, 73 points behind Friesen.

Registered Modified drivers are competing for a $10,000-plus top prize at American Racer Cup season’s end. A total cash point fund of $36,000 is set to go out, plus additional certificate giveaway throughout the season.

In addition, $5,700 in regional cash is handed out to Modified racers courtesy of Insinger Performance.

On the Sportsman side, Bridgeport Motorsports Park regulars – Sammy Martz Jr. and Stephen Kemery – occupy the top two spots. Martz holds a 16-point advantage between himself and Kemery.

Fonda Speedway’s Chad Edwards sits third, 21-points behind Martz Jr. Two markers behind Edwards is Outlaw (N.Y.) Speedway’s Alex Payne.

One more Fonda Regular, Mark Mortensen, rounds out the Sportsman top five.

$6,750 in purse money is distributed to the Sportsman competitors at the years end, with $1,500 reserved for the winner. Tire giveaways and certificates raise the total up over $10,000 handed out to the Sportsman teams.

Insinger Performance also gives out another $3,000 in regional cash for the Sportsman competitors.

Halfway Home: Rocky Warner (Modified) & Chad Edwards (Sportsman) Lead American Racer Cup

MILLSBORO, DE – Halfway through the scheduled American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels season and things are beginning to take shape.

The American Racer Cup standings began on April 16 and runs through the first weekend of September totaling 21 weeks in all.

This past weekend marked 10 weeks of competition in the books with another 11 weeks of racing to crown the 2021 American Racer Cup champions.

Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway regular Rocky Warner heads the Modified field by a slim four points over Grandview Speedway (Bechtelsville, Pa.) regulars Craig Von Dohren and Brett Kressley.

Two more Fonda Speedway regulars – Craig Hanson and Ronnie Johnson – round out the top-five in Modified points.

Fonda and Grandview Speedway regulars fill the Modified top-10 standings as Mother Nature has hindered several of the other American Racer Cup tracks throughout the first half of the season.

The registered Modified drivers are competing for a $10,000-plus top prize at the end of the American Racer Cup season with a cash point fund totaling $36,000 in addition to the certificate giveaways throughout the season.

An additional $5,700 in regional cash is also distributed to racers courtesy of Insinger Performance.

American Racer Cup Starts 12th Season April 16; Registration Closes April 30

INDIANA, PA – For the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels, 2021 will mark the 12th year that American Racer and Lias Tire together with Sunoco Race Fuels and Insinger Performance are rewarding teams who compete weekly at American Racer tracks.

The “Winning with Weekly Racers” program got its start in 2010 with Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., taking the inaugural Modified championship. Three years later, the Sportsman division was added and Jordan Watson of Milford, Del., was the first champion for that division.

Every year since ‘13 American Racer has crowned both Modified and Sportsman champions, along with hundreds of other bonuses and certificates to drivers who race weekly at American Racer tracks.

The program is presented by American Racer Tires and distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., and Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

The deadline to register for the American Racer Cup is April 30. Registration forms, and a link to register online are available on the American Racer Cup website: www.theamericanracercup.com.

Modified participating speedways in the ‘21 American Racer Cup are as follows: in New York – Accord, Afton Motorsports Park, Five Mile Point, Fonda, Outlaw, Utica-Rome and Woodhull; in Pennsylvania – Big Diamond, Grandview and Penn Can; in New Jersey – Bridgeport and New Egypt; and in Delaware – Delaware International.

Sportsman participating speedways in the ‘21 American Racer Cup are as follows: in New York – Accord (Crate), Afton Motorsports Park (Open & Crate), Five Mile Point (Crate), Fonda (Crate), Outlaw (Crate), Utica-Rome (Crate) and Woodhull (Crate); in Pennsylvania – Big Diamond (Open & Crate), Grandview (Open) and Penn Can (Crate); in New Jersey – Bridgeport (Crate) and New Egypt (Open & Crate); and in Delaware – Delaware International (Crate).

The American Racer Cup ranks drivers by their 10 best finishes at each participating home track. If a driver competes at different tracks on different nights, they must be registered separately for each track.

Finishes begin being tallied on April 16. The final day points can be earned toward the ’21 American Racer Cup is Sept. 6.  

The American Racer Cup weekly point breakdown is as follows: 1) 60; 2) 55; 3) 50; 4) 48; 5) 46; 6) 44; 7) 42; 8) 40; 9) 38; 10) 36; 11) 34; 12) 32; 13) 30; 14) 28; 15) 26; 16) 24; 17) 23; 18) 22; 19) 21; 20) 20; 21) 18; 22) 16; 23) 14; 24) 12; 25) 11; 26-28) 10.

At the end of the season, a starting field bonus is issued to competitors based upon the number of cars starting feature events at their participating speedway from April 16 to Sept. 6.  

The top-15 Modified competitors share a $36,000 point fund, with $10,000 going to the champion. The top-15 Sportsman competitors will share a $6,750 point fund, with $1,000 allocated to the winner. There are additional bonus dollars available through Insinger Performance in the North Region ($5,700 for Modifieds and $3,000 for Sportsman).

The total cash to be distributed in ’21 is $51,450.

American Racer Cup Kicks Off 12th Season of Winning with Weekly Racers

MILLSBORO, DE – For the 12th consecutive season, the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will be winning with weekly racers in 2021.

Thirteen facilities representing four states – New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware – comprise the ’21 American Racer Cup, which will reward Modified and Sportsman competitors with $51,450 in cash point funds plus hundreds of tire certificate giveaways. Drivers cash in for competing at their home American Racer Cup tracks on a weekly basis.

The program is presented by American Racer Tires and distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa., and Sunoco Race Fuels and distributor Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa.

Stewart Friesen, representing N.Y.’s Fonda Speedway (Modified) and Brian Hirthler, competing at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., (Sportsman) are the defending American Racer Cup overall champions, both for the first time in their careers.

The first American Racer Cup ‘pre-season’ giveaway took place in January on Facebook LIVE. Four free American Racer tires were distributed via random draw to Danny Creeden and Bobby Watkins (Modified) and Ken Eckert Jr. and Danielle Smith (Sportsman).

The next giveaway – for six total tires (three Modified and three Sportsman) – will take place on March 13 during the drivers’ meeting for the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco opener at Del.’s Georgetown Speedway.  

All registered drivers as of March 13 will be entered into the drawing shown live on Facebook.

Points begin tabulating for the ’21 Cup on Saturday, April 16 and continue through Labor Day (Monday, September 6).
